Well Done Ken!

Bro. Ken Dunn recently celebrated 35 years as a member of the Catenian Association. He was presented with a Scroll to mark the occasion at his home in Godalming by Bro. President, John Vickerman on Tuesday 4th December. Also present was Sue, one of Ken's twin daughters and Bro. Registrar, Rory Flyn.

Ken was born on 4th July 1921 in Headon a town near Bradford in Yorkshire. He moved to London in 1939 to attend the Royal Dental Hospital in Leicester Square. Unfortunately, Ken's studies were interrupted by a bout of TB and he had to continued them in 1945/46 at Leeds Dental School.

After qualifying, Ken became a House surgeon at the Leeds Dental Hospital. For a short period he worked at a dental practice in Leeds up until the time he moved to the seaside town of Skegness in 1946. It was also in 1946 that Ken married Phyllis (Phyl) Heather, nee Myles on the 18th of July.

Ken continued with his practice in Skegness up until 1953 at which time he returned to the South to work as a Consultant at Kingston Hospital in Surrey. In the latter part of that year he established his own practice in Surbiton. The family moved from Surbiton to Cliff Hanger, Godalming in early 1980 and Ken continued to run his practice up until he retired in 1985.

Ken and Phyl had four children, firstly Stephen in 1947 followed by Robert in 1949. Then in 1953 (Coronation Year!) twins Antonia and Sue were born. Sadly, Phyl passed away in November 2017.

Ken has always been a Jazz enthusiast and his all time favourite vocalists are Mark Murphy and Billie Holiday. However, Ken is not a fan of traditional jazz, the 'Acker Bilk' stuff! Daughter Sue says ''He is much to cool for that!''
