The Glittering Prizes!

On the 14th September, of the Autumn meeting he Province 19 Golf society was held at Hoebridge Golf Club in Woking. Bro. Mervyn Burby, who is this year's Captain of the Society, overcame challenges from 24 other brothers to win the Weybridge Trophy which was presented to him by the runner up Bro.Tom Finnegan of Epsom circle.

Not surprisingly Guildford Circle also won the Wimbledon Salvers. These are awarded to the best combined score from two brothers of the same circle and the deserving recipients were Bro. Mervyn and Bro. John Mercer.'

I wasn't provided with a photograph of Bro. John Receiving the Wimbledon Salvers along with Bro. Mervyn, but on the occasion he might have reacted something like this!

Ladies, Sons & Daughters Night

September 7th saw 'Un Soir Magnifique' which was, as usual, held at the Guildford Golf Club. By all accounts, it was rather a tight squeeze with 120 brothers, ladies, sons and daughters in attendance. However, I understand that the evening was a resounding success which you will gather from the selection of photographs, courtesy of Bro. Chris Devereux, below. Sadly yours truly, the Guildford CMKO, was not there as I was cruising the Mediterranean with Anne which is the reason this entry is so late appearing on the Blog.

Eight days later, on the15th September, Gabriela Vickerman whose lovely picture you will see in the Blog, gave birth to a baby girl, Juliana, who weighed in at 7 lbs 4 ozs. Congratulations to the proud parents, Patrick and Gabriela also to the proud grandparents on both sides especially to our own John and Angie Vickerman.

Don't know about you but I'm starving!

The Magnificent Seven

If your tired of watching the re-runs of the Olympics, as wonderful as our Team GB were, then take a look at Guildford Circle tennis. The 'Magnificent Seven' players came together on Sunday 21st August 2016 for a memorable afternoon of tennis at Sutherland Memorial Park in Burpham. Our President, Bro Stephen Ballard and Bro Secretary, Stephen Rowden were joined by Barbara Dale, Liz Dale, Katie Brennan and Joan Palmer. In addition a special thanks to Walter Noronha for venturing all the way from Province 11 West Surrey Circle.

After ten closely fought matches, the overall winner was Walter Noronha with the men's trophy closely followed by Liz Dale with the Ladies Trophy and Joan Palmer came third. It was also good to have spectator support from Renata Brennan, Harvey Palmer and Catherine Dale's family. A special thanks goes to our intrepid scorer, Barry Dale, who kept play running smoothly and prevented any disorderly conduct!

The proceeds of this tennis event will be sent to Aseel Gilbert at GYM ( Guildford Youth Ministry ) to support the Catholic youth activities of the Guildford Parish.

The Guildford Catenian's Bar-B-Que 2016

The Guildford Catenian Family Bar-B-Que was held again this year at St Edward's in Guildford on Saturday 6th August. There was the usual mix of food, drink, music, mild ribaldry and great company. The occasion was greatly enhanced by the presence of Maureen Briggs showing her 'True Grit' following the recent passing of our dear Bro.George Briggs.

By popular demand and for the enjoyment of the children, there was the return of the Bouncy Castle although brothers and ladies over a certain age had to be carefully monitored. There was also the GCOR, no not yet another Catenian officer, but the inaugural Guildford Catenian Obstacle Race with prizes for all ages groups.
