A Day to Remember!

The 25th June 2024 was a day to remember! The Hoebridge Golf Centre near Woking, hosted Province 19's finest golfers who were playing for the honour of winning the Des Carroll Memorial Trophy. The competitors, consisting of 13 men and 2 ladies, stoically played an 18-hole round in extreme heat.

The men's winner was Philip Schwenk of Reigate and Tandridge Circles who achieved an amazing 47 Stableford points. Jim O'Donnell and Martin McHugh secured 2nd and 3rd places respectively whilst Judy Carroll and Jane O'Donnell shared the ladies honours.

Master of Ceremonies Mervyn Burby of Guildford Circle, welcomed everyone to the Awards Dinner. Among the 35 diners Judy Carroll, wife of deceased Guildford brother Des Carroll in whose memory the event was organised, received a special welcome.

Andy Preisner a joint member of Guildford and Bristol Circles, kindly donated a spherical Waterford Crystal glass trophy. Andy also explained the history of Waterford Crystal Glass a company that was founded in Waterford in 1783.

During the dinner, there were many tributes to Des. Several spoke of his unassuming character and the way he supported the medical welfare of Catenian brothers and families during his lifetime. It certainly was a day to remember!
