Ladies, Sons and Daughters Night

Ladies Sons and Daughters Night was held on the 4th September at Guildford Rugby Club. It was well attended with 80 diners including Bishop Richard Moth who Later presented a bouquet of flowers to Frances Allen. Also during the evening, the eagerly anticipated Raffle was held. Many excellent prizes had been donated, mostly alcoholic, for the lucky ticket holders.

Bro. President made a welcoming speech followed by the usual round of humourous anecdotes. The response on behalf of the visitors was made by Mark Worlock Bro. Michael and Maureen Shortland's son in law.

It was good to see near neighbours in Farnham, Michael and Linda Maher, amongst the photographs. Linda used to collect the 'Red Mission Boxes' from the Farnham parishioners and I always endeavoured to have my box full and ready for her visit!

Yours truly was unable to attend as, coincidentally with our Secretary Bro. Glan, we had family visiting from America. Fortunately, Bro. Steve Rowden donned the photographer's mantle and took some excellent photographs as shown below.

Skittles Tournament

The annual Skittles Tournament between Guildford Circle and their arch rivals for the Barry Dale Cup, Kingston Circle, was held on September 14th at St Clements, Ewell. The nominal sum of £10.00 secured a fish supper with all the trimmings. However, as St Clements has no bar, combatants were requested to bring their own drinks to sustain them through the evening. Kick off, or should I say 'bowl off', commenced at 7.30 pm and both teams fought keenly for the prized cup named after Guildfords past President and Province 19's past Provincial President.

To cut a long story short, Guildford looked to have the upper hand from the outset and eventually won the keenly contested three round competition by 3 rounds to 0 with a score of 283 points to 234. This was not surprising as two of the Guildford competitors, Tina and Jackie, were the highest scorers with a total of 21 points each. The spirit of the evening was further enhanced by the participation of Barbara Dale and her family. See below photos recording all the action on the night!
