Bar-B-Q Summer 2019

The Annual Guildford Circle Bar-B-Q was held at the residence of Hazel Foulkes on Sunday 14th July. We were blessed with good weather not only for the event itself but for the setting up on the Saturday. As usual, this task was performed by volunteer brothers who toiled away to erect the various tents and put in position tables and chairs not to mention the two heavy gas Bar-B-Qs. Well done to the brothers!

Extra News Extra!

Ooops! This picture of Bro. Stephen Ballard and Jacky should have appeared in the previous Blog entry under News Extra!

News Extra!

A few items and photographs that didn't make the Blog. Firstly a picture of Bro. Paul Davies being congratulated for winning the Golf 'Captains Competition' There was, as mentioned on the Blog, no cup to present as it had been melted down by the previous winner. Shameful! However here is a photo of Bro. Paul being congratulated by Bro. President, Andy Fogell.

Shame about the cup Bro. Paul. Don't worry Bro President, I look forward to the Circle funding a Replica!

What Bro. Paul doesn't know is that a new Trophy is in the process of being designed its shape inspired by a golf ball. Below is an artists impression of what is might look like.

Next up is more Golfing news with Bro, Martin McHugh winning the Provincial Handicap Golf Trophy and he together with Bro. James O'Donnell, also won the Provincial Team Trophy.

We now move out attention to Asia where on June 30th, Bro. Stephen Ballard and wife Jacky were welcomed and entertained by Michael and Sue Milford at the Fullerton Hotel Singapore. The afternoon started with Champagne progressing to afternoon tea. This was followed by an early evening visit to the Singapore Cricket Club to watch the rehearsals for the 200 Singapore Celebrations. Finally there was a tour of Marina Bay by night.

Bro. Stephen added, ''If you've seen the film 'Crazy Rich Asians', which I can thoroughly recommend, you will get the picture'' He also conveyed regards to everyone from Michael and Sue.

Fathers & Sons Night

On the 4th June 2019, a warm and humid evening, Guildford Circle hosted Fathers & Sons night at the Guildford Golf Club. In attendance were: 35 Guildford Brothers; 4 Guildford Sons; 1 Clergy, Fr Roy Waters; 8 Visiting Brothers and 5 Visiting Brother's Sons together wih 1 Visiting Gentleman.

The Circle meeting commenced at 7.30 pm during which, Bro President, congratulated Bro. Paul Davies on his achievement of being the individual winner of the 'Captain's Day' Golf Competition. Unfortunately, there was no cup to present to Bro. Paul as it had, apparently, been destroyed in a fire at the previous winner's home. A likely story! Following the meeting everyone retired to the dining room where Grace before Meal was said by Fr Roy.

As the evening progressed there were the usual speeches with a welcome from Bro. President and responses from the Visiting Brothers. There were toasts to Absent Brothers and to the Queen proposed by Bro. Vice-President, Tim Edwards. Grace after Meal was again said by Fr Roy. The usual round of jokes ensued and all in all it was a very pleasant evening. Please see below a selection of photographs taken on the night.
